<p>If you an Affiliate Marketer looking at getting into pay per click advertising the most costly mistake you can make is to quickly rush off and throw money into Google Adwords without fully understanding the fundamentals and not learn Google Adwords throughly.  It&#8217;s important to note that whilst Google Adwords can help create a passive income stream for your online business, pay per click advertising can burn a hole right through your pocket and have you putting your head between you legs and ultimately being afraid to reload and start again. </p>

This is strange, for they wouldn&#8217;t dream of letting the same people build their bricks and mortar store or office.</p>
<p>Of course, getting an expert who fully understands small business SEO to build your website is not likely to come cheap, but it may be the best solution if you are starting out from scratch. However, this article is aimed at those small businesses that already have a website, but are disappointed at how poorly it performs. <p>1. Create an Effective Website Title Tag, Description Meta Tag,<br />
and Keywords Meta Tag</p>
<p>The most important part of any website page (in the eyes of the search engines) is the title tag. The title is enclosed between the opening title tag: and the closing title tag: . It is located in the head section of an HTML document, or web page. You should use your page&#8217;s main keyword in your title. Try to use your main keyword near the beginning of your title, and perhaps again near the end. But always strive to make your title readable, and not obviously keyword stuffed.</p>
<p>Your description tag plays an important role in SEO for your local small business. This tag is used by most of the search engines in their listings, so you need to spend some time getting this right. The description tag looks like this: and it is also found in the head section of your web page.</p>
<p>Something brief such as, &#8220;Acme Incorporated, Makers of Blue Widgets,&#8221; gets the message across, but you could do much better. Try to list benefits rather than features, and use your main keyword in your description as well. Keep your description reasonably brief, but not too short. Something like, &#8220;Acme, Inc., Makers of the Strongest, Most Powerful and Affordable Widgets on the Planet&#8221; is better.</p>
<p>Like a headline for an ad or sales flyer, your description may take time to develop. Start with a list of all of the benefits your product or service offers and then try to write 20 different descriptions for your site based on those benefits. Test your descriptions by reading them to your customers, employees or others familiar with your business. You&#8217;ll find out which description resonates most strongly with your potential prospects &#8211; and that&#8217;s good for the search engines and for your sales.</p>

<p>2. Optimize Your Website Copy</p>
<p>Your website copy consists of the words on every page of your site. Try to make it interesting and informative. One simple way to arrange your articles, or informative pages, is to use a simple three-step format. Begin with an introductory paragraph that tells your visitor what you are going to tell them. Then in the next two or three paragraphs, tell them. Finally, wind up the article by telling them what you just told them.</p>
<p>This may seem overly simple, but it works. Speak to your website audience as you would to a seven-year-old child. Don&#8217;t patronize them, but lay it out clearly in simple steps using straightforward language that anyone can understand.</p>
<p>When writing your copy for each of your pages, make sure to focus on one or two keywords per page. If you are selling widgets in all colors and you also sell thingamajigs, then widgets should be on one page and thingamajigs on another. Keep it simple for your customers and the search engines by focusing on one idea per page and your customers will thank you for it, and Google will thank you too.</p>
<p>3. Establish an Acceptable Keyword Density for Your Website Copy</p>
<p>While optimizing your website copy you also need to establish a keyword density that is acceptable to the search engines. Opinions differ, but somewhere between 2% and 5% is probably about right. This means that for effective small business SEO, your main keyword phrase should appear around three times for every 100 words.</p>
<p>Where your keyword appears is important too. Try to use your main keyword or phrase twice in the first paragraph, once in the second paragraph, once around the middle of the article, and once again near the end of the article. Try to start and end the first paragraph with your main keyword if possible, but don&#8217;t force it. Always aim for copy that is readable before copy that has perfect keyword density.</p>
<p>4. Create Quality Back Links to Your Website</p>
<p>Increasingly, the search engines are giving added weight to the number of quality back links your website has. It used to be that reciprocal linking was quite acceptable, and it still is, but now Google and the other search engines give higher credibility to one-way back links as far as your search engine rankings are concerned.</p>
<p>And it&#8217;s not just any back links either. You need to have quality back links, or back links from sites that are similar to yours. It&#8217;s not much good getting a back link from a site about butterflies if your site focuses on racing cars. With Google, it&#8217;s all about relevance. You should also strive to get back links from so-called authority sites. These are sites that the search engines deem to be an authority on their chosen subject. They tend to be quite big and to have been around for some time.</p>
<p>5. Use Local Directories Effectively</p>
<p>If you are marketing to a local market, then make use of local directories. How do you find them? If, for example, you are located in New York, then go to Google and search for, &#8220;directory&#8221; + &#8220;new york.&#8221; This will return a list of all the local directories in that city. You could even try searching for, &#8220;blue widgets directory&#8221; + &#8220;new york,&#8221; if you are marketing blue widgets.</p>
<p>Once you find a suitable directory, submit your website to it. People do search on local directories, so even if your product has worldwide appeal, there&#8217;s a greater chance that you will get the sale if someone finds you in a local directory over someone else located in another continent who can deliver just as cost effectively or as quickly.</p>
<p>6. Create a Proper Site Map and Google Site Map</p>
<p>Every website should have a site map. This is merely a directory of all your site&#8217;s pages with links to every one. You should have a link from every page of your site back to your site map, and your site map must be updated whenever a new page is added.</p>
<p>A Google Site Map is also a site map, but one that is in a special format that Google can easily spider. It has the great advantage of allowing Google to instantly &#8220;see&#8221; your site and evaluate it. It can be a very useful tool in getting Google to index your site more quickly than otherwise. Dumping 100 articles a day into your site will ultimately work against you, because the search engines look for organic growth ? in other words, growth that seems natural. Since it&#8217;s not likely that you were able to write 100 articles in one day, Google and the other search engines will see this as unnatural and will count it against you in your page ranking.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the biggest mistakes Internet Marketers make is the illusion that driving thousands of visitors to their site is the most important criteria for online success.  It is unfortunate that this is one of the most costly exercises most will face will trying to grow their online business.  Without traffic you are not going to make a single sale let alone a profitable scalable business, this much is true but to what extent does the amount of traffic play a role?</p>
<p>I have seen budding Marketers taking their money and throw it into the hands of Google and Yahoo as if throwing larger amounts of money on advertising on pay per click networks would yield better returns.  This usually ends up being a vicious cycle like a degenerate gambler throwing more money on the table in the hopes to finally hit a winner, in our case, sales.  Lets examine how we can find cheap  profitable keywords and ultimately creating profitable Adwords campaigns.</p>
<p>First thing we need to accept is that more traffic doesn&#8217;t equate into more sales, it equates into higher costs, simple.  If we are paying for people to come to our site, who are we wanting to land on our site? Are you happy to pay for information you are giving for people who are still researching a product, who have a question they want answered but not even considering spending a dollar for that information?  Time after time marketers are attracting visitors who simple do not want what they are selling, why is that, well because they don&#8217;t even know themselves what they want, they are simply researching for a solution.</p>
<p>Let look at an example that illustrates this better than any, the &#8220;make money online&#8221; marketing. Now think about that keyword, who is typing those words into the search field? Obviously someone that after information about how to make money online, they do not know how, the do not know the best method, their options or even if it is possible.  Do you want to pay for this people clicking your Ad? The &#8220;make money online&#8221; keyword is one of the most costly keyword around because competition is fierce but more importantly Marketers believe this keyword will convert. Obviously people are making sales with it, but are they making a profit?</p>
<p>The buy cycle is the most important criterion you must examine when deciding on which keywords to pay for.  You goal should be to find keywords that target those who know what they want but require a gentle push to make a decision to pull out their credit cards and enter those digits.  This visitors have done their research and are ready to buy a product or service to best suite their needs.  In the example above, for the &#8220;make money online&#8221; keyword, put yourself in the shoes of the person searching in Google.  Obviously these people are researching, internet marketers make their jobs so much harder by trying to convince people to do something, you shouldn&#8217;t need to take someone from the research phase to the buy phases, your keywords should be targeting those who are ready to buy.</p>
<p>Broad keywords will not only result in higher cost per click but unwanted traffic, you need to be very specific and isolate those who you want to visit your site.  Would you care if you only had 10 visitors a day but 1 in every 3 lead to a sale? Of course not, you must get out of the mindset that more traffic will get you more sales.  HIGHLY TARGETED traffic will lead to more sales, higher conversion rates, cheaper clicks and ultimately more money in your pocket.</p>
<p>General rule of thumb I like to use is to use keywords that are a minimum of  3+ words long, target those late in the buy cycle who simply require a gentle nudge to pull out their credit card, nothing more. In these cases you do not even to put in the hard sale, these people are on the fence just looking for some reassurance that they are making the right decision.  </p>
<p>If you are wondering which people are finding cheap and profitable keywords, accept the fact that their is no secret to discovering these words.  My favorite tool is my good old, thrashed at times, brain.  Once you understand your market keywords should be popping up for you, take note, some of my best converting keywords are 7+ words long. Why? because i am speaking directly to those ready to buy and not trying to convince someone to go from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds. </p>
<p>Long tail keywords that are targeted to those late in the buy cycle will be not only cheaper but more profitable.  Get out of the mindset that more traffic is better traffic, higher conversions, cheaper clicks equates to profit.  </p>
<p>More importantly, research research and more research.  Understand your market, once you can get into the head of your market, highly targeted keywords will become apparent and you will be amazed at how cheap your clicks will become.</p>

<p>So, how will searchers find your website? What types of search engines could they use?</p>
<p>Search engines fall into two categories.  The first is referred to as natural, organic or standard.  The second is called pay-per-click, paid inclusion or paid placement.</p>
<p>Natural, organic and standard are interchangeable terms describing a search engine that bases its search rankings on a ranking algorithm.  The algorithms involve a number of criteria and parameters, all relating to the content of the website, the website?s size, the number of incoming links to the website, and the content?s relevancy.  You will hear terms such as keyword relevancy and keyword density to describe various components of the algorithms.</p>
<p>For the standard search engines, you, your webmaster or hired search engine optimization specialist could spend considerable time optimizing your website to achieve top rankings. The goal is for your website to appear on the first or second page of the search engines? results when your target user searches keywords or keyword phrases.</p>
<p>The good news is rankings on standard search engines are free.  The downside is the tremendous amount of time and effort required to achieve exceptional search engine rankings.   Let?s confess to each other that top rankings on standard search engines can be tough and timely to achieve!</p>
<p>The interchangeable terms pay-per-click, paid inclusion or paid placement describe a search engine that bases its search rankings on a ?bid for position? basis. <p>With pay-per-click search engines, your ability to bid high can dramatically impact your website?s search engine ranking when the search results display website domain names or URL?s for the search keyword or keyword phrase.  The benefit is your website gains visibility with the searcher, but you are not charged the pay-per-click ?bid? until a searcher actually clicks on your website domain name or URL displayed in the search engine results. The selection of your website in the search engine results is called a click-through.</p>
<p>In general, click-through rates range from 1% to 5% of the number of impressions.  What is all of this?  A click is when a searcher selects or ?clicks? your pay-per-click ad.  An impression is one display of your pay-per-click ad on the search engine results.  So, the click-through rate is a measure of the total number of ad clicks versus the total number of impressions in a period of time:</p>
<p>Click-Through Rate % = Total Number of Ad Clicks / Total Number of Ad Impressions * 100</p>
<p>Let?s do the math for our #1 position bid of $3.55 per click.  In September, 2004 there were 21,535 searches for ?pay per click.?  First, let?s assume a 1% click-through rate. The top bidder spent $764.49 (21,535 * 1% * $3.55).  Now, at a 5% click-through rate the top bidder spent $3,822.45 (21,535 * 5% * $3.55).  Budgeting and controlling marketing expenses with such a broad range of potential costs could be tough.  Plus, such costs could be the tip of the iceberg. We still must consider derivatives of the keyword or keyword phrase. So, was being #1 worthwhile?  That depends on your website?s cost per visitor, conversion rate and profit margin of your product or service.</p>
<p>From what we?ve covered so far, you should realize you can achieve a top or high ranking through the pay-per-click search engine. But, a high ranking will cost money and these costs can be volatile. Meanwhile, the standard search engine remains free.</p>
<p>However, pay-per-click offers one significant advantage.  It enables you to achieve website visibility with a high ranking instantaneously or overnight. <p>So, how do we target buying customers and get rid of the click-hungry tire kickers? Well, there are several strategies I use, and taken together they ensure I get healthy returns on my clicks.</p>
<p>Firstly, pay very close attention to your keywords. By on large, the broader the keyword, the greater the chance of random non-buyers clicking on your ad and costing you money. For example, someone searching for ?Adwords? might want to log into their Adwords account, they might be searching for free content, or they could just be killing time. </p>
<p>Contrast this with a very targeted keyword such as ?buy Adwords e-book?. Well, there is no comparison, the second will tend to convert at ten times the rate of the first, more general keyword ? but people tend to pay the same for each keyword. I don?t know if it?s because no-one tracks their conversions properly anymore, but in any event don?t fall into the trap of believing that all keywords are created equal.</p>
<p>If you are a merchant and have conversion tracking setup on Adwords, pay close attention to where your sales are coming from. The truth might surprise you.</p>
<p>Secondly, add ?free? as a negative keyword to your campaign ? this will cut out the blatant tyre kickers before they even get a chance to click on our ads. </p>
<p>A third possible strategy is to put your price in the ad, possibly in the headline, eg ?super new gizmo only $50?. However, I don?t like this method too much ? the reason being that the freebie hunters will click anyway, and many potential buyers will be dissuaded from clicking (many copywriters make their price as invisible as possible on the sales letter, why advertise it before they have even read the benefits?)</p>
<p>What I tend to do instead is make a subtle reference to the fact that the information does come with a price tag, using a word such as ?cheap?, ?low cost?, ?inexpensive?, ?limited offer?, ?discounted price? etc. This tends to not only dissuade the hardcore freebie hunters, but will actually make borderline potential buyers curious and more willing to read the sales copy. And that can only be a good thing.</p>
<p>Remember, click through rate is important but only if the people who click are buying. If not, you would be better off pausing your campaigns and trying a more forgiving advertising method.</p>

<p>A decent landing page is a key factor in sales conversions. There are many different styles of pages, and going into great detail what makes a good landing page would be a full article itself but basically, organized layout, proper use of graphics, getting your message across clearly &amp; no frames are the main components to a quality landing page.</p>
<p>When using Adwords Google really takes the content of your site as a main factor. Whatever keywords you are advertising, you should try to have on your page. Not only will the searcher identify this as relevant information, and Google will reward you with a better quality score which can mean higher rankings, cheaper minimum bids and they can shave the cost of the clicks down from what you have bid. Google rewards relevancy and Adwords is no exception.</p>
<p>Turning on the Content Network</p>
<p>The content network is plagued with click fraud and poor quality traffic. When I started with Adwords I didn&#8217;t realize this and left the content network on and lost money. That being said, once you have a handle on Adwords you can use the content network just make sure to bid very low. Personally I don&#8217;t bid over 0.06 cents a click. Some people claim that they profit higher and get better sales conversions from the content network than they do with the<br />
search network. I have never experienced this myself.</p>

Daily Budget Too High</p>
<p>Putting the daily budget up higher than the recommended  amount used to be recommended by top marketers to increase traffic. Recently Google has increased the impressions on campaigns that use this technique. The problem is that the increase is on keywords broad match phrases that aren&#8217;t targeted very well which leads to a huge spike in conversions and a poor CTR. This will hurt your Quality score and can really hinder your campaign&#8217;s performance. Another reason you want to be careful when raising your daily budget high is sometimes marketers forget that they have done so.<br />
They might not check their account for a couple of days and when they do they end up blowing through a lot of money.</p>
<p>Grouping Keywords</p>
<p>When creating your ad groups you want to use similar keywords in each ad group with at least one keyword the same eg. ad group &#8211; electric guitars, keywords:</p>

<p>The root keyword in the above example is electric guitars and this phrase should be in every keyword you would use in this group. The root keyword should also be used in your ad:</p>

When you do have a visitor interested in your products, they will typically keep searching after they have left your website and compare you to your competitors. If they have forgotten the name of your website (they usually do) They will most likely do another search to find you again, if you are not on the first page they may not dig to the other pages for you even if they found you on the 3rd page originally, they may not be willing to do it again people get tired of comparing prices and searching after a while and burying yourself may save you money in bids but can also cost you a lot in sales.</p>

<p>Google?s Adsense is probably the best way for using a PPC campaign due to its high traffic volume, but not because of its Adsense system. No, indeed similar systems can be found at abundance throughout the web. Google hosts millions of searches each day, meaning that any PPC campaign is bound to find a few customers amongst such numbers.</p>
<p>The chronological way for using such system would be to bid for your primary keyword, specially if your site isn?t organically in the first page of Google and I can be certain that indeed most of you aren?t even close, which is why you are using PPC. Using PPC for your primary keyword is all good and well, but have you noticed how many other websites are bidding in vein for the exact same keyword? You are not the only one using PPC and if you don?t have a certain strategy in doing so you might not even get any results from such system, even though you are paying!</p>
<p>The most popular keywords for a given theme are competed for fiercely. So how do you go about bidding low and minimizing competition for maximum results? Well, you need to focus your campaign on niche keywords. </p>

How about ?New York furniture? or ?furniture delivery in New York?? These keywords are very specific and will generate fewer clicks, but they are QUALITY clicks. These clicks are far more likely to turn into paying customers than people who click on ?used furniture?, because people who search for such general phrases could be anywhere in the world and are out of your business range, but they could also just be fishing for prices or undergoing some research. Competing for very general keywords is unwise and unprofitable. </p>
<p>When someone searches for ?second-hand furniture New York? you immediately know they are within business range because they live in New York. Making this person far more probable of being a potential customer. Not only are they in New York but they are looking for second-hand furniture within their city, bingo! </p>
<p>Finding the right key phrases are not hard, you just need to really think about what a local customer might type into the search box to find you. The more specific, the better. And you will surprisingly find that with such specific keywords competition will be reduced to almost zero, because your competitors are too busy bidding for popular words! Not only will these keywords provide you with golden clicks but also you are the only choice they will have from these keywords! How better can it get?</p>
<p>Bidding for words that are popular is a waste of time and effort. The key to PPC is knowing when and how to use specific keywords to maximum effect by a careful combination of educated guesses and informed decisions.</p>

<p>Ex. If someone searches &#8220;Legal Services&#8221;, you enter that you will pay a maximum of 0.07cts per click.</p>
<p>This will give you a pre-qualified potential client for 0.07cts.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s move on a little now..</p>
<p>Assuming that your ad is all set up and already on the way. Now you can return to Google, log into your account and see how your &#8220;Key Words &amp; Key Phrases&#8221; are performing with your campaign.</p>
<p>It might read something like this&#8230;.</p>
<p>1. Legal Services &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;- Ad was viewed 2000 times &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;- Clicked on 100 times.<br />
2. Lawyers in Ontario &#8212;&#8211; Ad was viewed 4560 times &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;- Clicked on 9 times.</p>
<p>Now you will get a much better understanding at what your potential clients are searching for and what they are actually clicking on.</p>

<p>Google Adwords, Yahoo (formerly called Overture Sponsored listings) and other Pay Per Click (PPC) companies give you the chance to get your ad or search listing at the top of the pack, right up front and perfectly matched to the searcher&#8217;s query. With a clever and catchy, attention grabbing ad or headline you can win the viewer in that critical split second he has to decide to click.</p>
<p>He clicks, you score! Right? WRONG! If you can get that click on a focused, targeted keyphrase and ad headline, you should feel very good. You&#8217;re halfway there. But, where does he land? On your home page? On the specific product page if you have an online store? </p>
<p>The page where the viewer lands is called a &#8220;landing page&#8221; or &#8220;destination page.&#8221; It is equally as important as your ad headline and copy, if not more. Most sales, conversions, or leads that cost hard cash to Adwords or Yahoo are often lost because of poor, or non existent landing pages. </p>
<p>Why can&#8217;t I just send my adword clicks to my Home page?</p>
<p>You can. But what if you walked into a five-story department store with no sales people&#8211; You&#8217;re looking for a very specific sweatshirt with a Penn State Logo that you saw at a football game. You know the sports shop out in the mall will have it, but you&#8217;ve got a store credit card so you&#8217;d like to get it here. You&#8217;re also holding onto two toddlers who are losing their cuteness very quickly because they want the Happy Meals you promised on the way home.</p>
<p>So there you are in an endless sea of perfume counters. You want a sweatshirt. Maybe it&#8217;s in the men&#8217;s section&#8230;but where is that? Or maybe it&#8217;s in Active wear&#8230; would that be with the men&#8217;s stuff? And where are the escalators?!</p>
<p>&#8220;Forget it,&#8221; you think, and walk out to the sports shop in the mall, buy your sweatshirt and are on your way to Micky D&#8217;s in less than 10 minutes.</p>
<p>Your homepage is the department store. It doesn&#8217;t matter if you&#8217;re selling a product, service, or giving away free information. You have sections and categories which are probably very well marked and labeled. </p>
<p>However, your Google Ad or Sponsored listing was specific. It advertised a precise thing in about 70 characters or less. People don&#8217;t care about your home page. They expect to see what they were searching for as soon as they click. Don&#8217;t you?</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s say your ads lead to specific destination pages of your site. What&#8217;s on those pages?</p>

Destination Page Overview</p>
<p>For Pay Per Click, your destination pages are absolutely critical. They are the second half of the sales pitch. Just having the adword or PPC land on the product page is not enough. First, you have to get someone to your site. </p>
<p>Remember the number of hits you get on a PPC or Google Adword is an ever-increasing expense if you don&#8217;t turn that click into a sale and the only sales person you have is the page at the end of that click.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve got to convince someone quickly, &#8220;at a glance quickly,&#8221; why they should buy from you and not the ad above or below you. Think of your own web searches. You have seconds to entice that viewer to read more, or lose them. </p>
<p>Build the page around a SINGLE goal incorporating:</p>
<p>? Well written content describing in clear detail what you are offering </p>
<p>? Organization to make a fast read or &#8220;scan&#8221; of the page convey as much information to the viewer as possible. Use bullet points and straightforward language to make reading as easy as possible</p>
<p>? Show the benefits to the potential customer. Details that the viewer can relate to on a personal, even emotional level are what makes this page have a much better chance of getting a lead, conversion or sale. It must show all the properties that make you better than the rest. Don&#8217;t be arrogant, but make the reader feel they will be secure, better and confident if they buy, fill out a form, or perform the action you&#8217;re after.</p>
<p>? KISS- &#8220;Keep it simple, stupid&#8221; applies here too. If you don&#8217;t need a country and a phone number in your form, keep them off. Make it easy and simple for your viewer.</p>
<p>Remember, when you land on a page, you ask &#8220;WHAT&#8217;S IN IT FOR ME?&#8221;</p>

Destination Page Construct</p>
<p>? The first step is to provide the viewer with what he&#8217;s looking for immediately. Next, show him the features of the product.</p>
<p>? Most importantly, what is the benefit to the potential customer? Why should he buy from you? What will he gain by buying from you?</p>
<p>? If you&#8217;re selling a product that is very similar to other competing products, you need to focus your sales message on what makes your product unique. What are the unique benefits for your customer? </p>
<p>? Anything that can steal focus from your objective risks losing a conversion. This includes other products, details not related to the main idea, and even the navigation system you use throughout your site. Don&#8217;t give the viewer the option to go anywhere else but to a form, buy button or call to action.</p>
<p>? Each destination page should have a single, obvious goal that gently tells the customer what to do. Don&#8217;t try to cross sell or sign up for a newsletter and send an e-card. Stick to one goal.</p>
<p>? Some people might be looking for the specific product and buy from you. But for those that are questioning and/or first time buyers, don&#8217;t give them a chance to question your credibility.</p>
<p>?The phone number and email address should appear (not obnoxiously)enough times that they&#8217;re always visible when the page is scrolled. It&#8217;s a proven fact, if someone has to search for how to contact you, you lose some potentials.</p>

Destination Pages and the Unique Selling Proposition</p>
<p>A concept developed in 1961 still holds merit today and is a great check for the underlying tone of your landing page. That is the &#8220;Unique Selling Proposition&#8221; by Rosser Reeves. The concept explains how every company should strive to show how it differs and surpasses its competition.</p>
<p>It consists of three concepts that should be applied to your advertisement (or adword) and your destination page.</p>
<p>1. Tell the consumer what benefits you will be giving him. ? &#8220;Buy this product, and you will get this specific benefit.&#8221;</p>
<p>2. The benefits have to be unique to your product. Something that separates you from what the competition has to offer. If your products are sold by competitors too, find something that distinguishes YOUR company.</p>
<p>3. The proposition must be so strong and convincing that it can move the millions (attract new customers).</p>
<p>
To be successful, you&#8217;ll need to research and build a campaign, then watch and modify, test and retest different changes, words, prices, etc. I want to stress the importance of this. </p>
<p>The same testing, observing, tracking and revising apply to landing pages as they do to ads and headlines themselves. It can save you a lot of money. If you&#8217;re not careful you can run up thousands of dollars in PPC and adwords with insignificant sales or leads.</p>

Pay per click (ppc) marketing is an advertising platform in which you bid an amount of money that you are willing to pay for a click. </p>
<p>When a searcher does a search at Google all of the ads on the right side of the screen are ppc ads. Google calls them sponsored listings. When a surfer types in a keyword, the advertisers who have bid on that keyword have their ads displayed. When one of the ads is clicked by the surfer they are taken to the advertiser?s website. The advertiser is charged at maximum, the amount they?ve bid. Most of the time they are charged less than what they have bid.  But they are never charged more than their maximum bid.</p>
<p>The bids can start at 1 cent and depending on the market and the ppc search engine, go up to $50 or more per click. When starting off I suggest bidding very low. Ten to fifteen cents per click or lower is a good start. The higher you bid the higher in the rankings your ad is shown therefore increasing your ad?s visibility and your potential visitors. The downside is bidding high can cost you a lot of money and in some cases bring you way over budget. Be very careful when bidding.</p>
<p>Bidding low might not get you as much traffic as bidding high but it will bring you traffic for much cheaper thus increasing your return of investment (ROI).  One way to increase the amount of times your ad is shown (visibility) while bidding low, is to bid on a high volume of keywords. Some marketers bid on hundreds and up to hundreds of thousands of keywords.</p>
<p>This method will take some time. Putting together hundreds or thousands of keywords can be time consuming, but it is an effective strategy for getting quality traffic, without paying a lot of money. The more you work with the ppcs the faster you will get at putting together lists of keywords.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Reading the Google hit piece that appeared in Barron&#8217;s this week got me thinking about the whole pay-per-click model. Pay-per-click (PPC) has been around for more a decade, and while Google has made some positive changes to it, it&#8217;s showing its age.</p>
<p>If you think of the Internet advertising process as a series of actions, it would go like this:</p>
<p>Impression -&gt; Click -&gt; Action</p>
<p>Back in the old days the metric was CPM (cost per thousand), and advertisers paid per impression (getting the ad on the screen). CPM favored the publisher over the advertiser, as the publisher&#8217;s responsibility ended at the first part of the process. DoubleClick, an early ad serving company, came up with their DART system to match the right advertiser with the right screen in order to maximize the return on CPM.</p>
<p>PPC moved the metric forward in the process, measuring success (and payment) based not on how many times the ad was served, but how many times it was actually clicked. When most people think of PPC they think of Adsense, Google&#8217;s contextual advertising engine. But PPC is employed in banner advertising, on big ad farms like Doubleclick and other companies, and in some affiliate programs, though the number seems to be waning.</p>
<p>The latest incarnation of search engine based PPC (thanks to Google), works like this: you select keywords that you think people will use to search for stuff related to what you sell. For example, if you sell pretzel dough you might want to advertise under pretzels or making pretzels or something along those lines. Selecting keywords is way beyond the scope of this article, but there are plenty of companies out there that make a living helping you pick keywords. Anyway, you then bid on those keywords and your ad is shown on the page with the search results.</p>
<p>With Adsense Google moved the context from the search engine results page to your web site content. It reads your site and decides what keywords to use to display advertising on your site, just as it would with a Google search.</p>
<p>For affiliate programs it&#8217;s a little different, but the concept is the same. You choose the ads (or pay someone a piece of the action to choose the ads for you), and they get displayed on your pages. Rather than selecting the keywords explicitly, you are selecting the ads based on what you (or your agent) thinks people who have chosen to read your content may have an interest in seeing.</p>
<p>When someone clicks on the ad, you get paid. It&#8217;s that simple.</p>
<p>For Adsense, appearing first on the list makes all the difference. A study suggests that being the #1 choice increases your chance of being clicked by up to 40%, because a lot of people don&#8217;t look past the first entry (I always check the first few). The difference in bids between the first position and second position could be staggering. For example, 1900 people searched Google for the word tax yesterday. The top spot in Adsense would have cost you $25.12. Positions 2 and 3 drop to $6.96, and 4 and 5 would have cost you $4.24.</p>
<p>My experience with Adsense tells me that in this case the first position would probably pay Google close to $10.</p>
<p>As the publisher, this is a home run. Every time the person clicks I get a $5 bill. God, what a country!</p>
<p>As the advertiser, $10 to get the person in the door seems like a lot of money to me. If I&#8217;m selling a high margin item (like maybe tax software or one of those quickie tax loans), it seems like it may be okay.</p>
<p>But I still have to get them to buy. Conversion rates (getting the person to take some action once they&#8217;ve clicked on the ad and gone to your site) vary wildly, but I always use 1.5 &#8211; 3% of those who click on an ad. That means that 97 &#8211; 98.5% of the people who click on the ad do not buy. Let&#8217;s use 2% as an example. That means that for all the five dollar bills flying into the publisher&#8217;s pocket, only about 2 people out of every hundred will buy anything. So for every $1000 I spend I get 20 sales. That means that every sale costs me $50. Your results will vary, of course, depending on how targeted your keywords are and your industry and offer. Get the conversion up to 5%, for example, and you will be down to $20 per sale, which is a little better. I am designing a what-if tool to help with this, and I&#8217;ll post it when it&#8217;s ready.</p>
<p>One of the reasons for low conversion is probably click fraud. If an unscrupulous person wants to make money in PPC, all he needs to do is find a bunch of people (or computers) to click on the ads on his website continually, and he&#8217;ll reap the rewards.</p>
<p>Barron&#8217;s believes that the smart money is getting out of PPC. They cite FTD as an example:</p>
<p>Flower giant FTD Group (FTD) recently complained about the high price of search advertising. &#8220;During the Christmas season, certain online search engine costs increased significantly over the prior year, and as such we made the decision not to pursue the resulting high-cost order volume,&#8221; said Michael Soenen, chief executive officer.</p>
<p>First off, let me just say that as an advertising exec I pitched FTD, and they didn&#8217;t strike me as the brightest bulbs in the chandelier. That being said, it&#8217;s easy to see why FTD wants out. Being #1 or #2 in the keyword Flowers around Valentine&#8217;s Day would have cost between $6.25 and $10.00. There were 100,000 searches on the days close to VD on that keyword, and 11,500 on Flowers Delivered, which would have cost between $5.03 and $6.72.</p>
<p>Some simple arithmetic shows me that FTD nets about $6.20 per transaction across its network. So the transaction is either a wash or a loss. FTD is the number 1 ad on Google for their keywords, so I guess they decided to eat that first transaction, counting on continuity to save them. According to Barron&#8217;s this isn&#8217;t going to work either:</p>
<p>One industry executive noted that the lifetime value of a customer acquired through Google for his/her business had approached zero. Oops. So much for that theory.</p>
<p>So the answer seems to be that the big guys are getting out. Using the flowers example, though, the top 5 ads are FTD, ProFlowers, Hallmark, 1-800-Flowers and Teleflora. So I guess it&#8217;s going to happen over time.</p>
<p>So where is the future? According to the inventor of pay-per-click himself, Bill Gross (formerly of GoTo.com), the future is in pay-per-action, which moves the metric down to the final part of the Internet advertising transaction, where we think it belongs. There&#8217;s a terrific article on Seochat.com that has more information on this.</p>
<p>Pay-per-action is simple&#8230;both parties have a stake in the outcome of the click, whether that is a sale, a lead, or even an instant telephone call (more on that in part 2). We think this is going to be the next big thing, and it&#8217;s already happening.</p>

Almost every company that can afford print, radio and TV advertisements have also ventured into placing ads on the Internet.</p>
<p>But with millions of websites out there being visited by millions of computer users, how can you make sure that your ad can be seen by your target customers and that your leads will be followed by these users?  Here are a few tips. Always start with <a href='http://webbasedbusiness.ws' target='_blank'>search engine submission</a>.</p>
<p>1.  Place an ad on the websites frequented by your target customers.  Before doing this, you need to define who will be your target customers.  Placing an ad on sites that they usually visit will increase the possibility that your ad will gain the attention and will be followed your target customers.  </p>
<p>Also, consider the website&#8217;s search engine placement, traffic, external linking and the other ads placed on it.  External linking will determine if there are other sites that link to this site.  This will mean that people can get to the site where your ad is placed, even if they are browsing a different site.  Check if many of your competitors have ads on this site.</p>
<p>2.  Placing ads on some sites cost some money.  However, there are also sites that can place a link to your site, product or service in exchange of having their link being displayed on your site.  This is also true about the newsletters sent by site owners to its mailing list members regularly.</p>
<p>Also, having helpful links placed on your site and having sites link to your pages help in boosting search engine ranking.  This is similar to making a statement that your site&#8217;s content is important that other sites have links to your web pages.</p>
<p>3.  Pay-per-click (PPC) is also a good method in Internet marketing.  You will only need to pay for the ad if the link is clicked.  If you prefer this method of advertisement, make sure that you are using services that set limits on daily expenses.  There are also services that help you determine effective keywords and monitor the PPC results.</p>
<p>4.  Choose your domain name wisely.  It is still being debated if domain names matter when it comes to search engine placement.  Whether it does or not, having product related domain names help consumers remember your domain, that they can go back to your site even without the links.</p>
<p>5.  Make sure you have useful content on your sites.  While keyword density is important in search engine placement, having useless information or annoying repetition of keywords will not increase your customer&#8217;s confidence in your site.  It may even affect your sites traffic and can get your site removed from search engines.  So make sure that keywords are used strategically.</p>
<p>6.  When thinking of keywords, think like your target customers.  What do you think are they going to search so they can get to your site?  Also, use specific keywords or key phrases.  Submitting a single word or a very general phrase to a search engine will not get you to the top of the search results compared to submitting specific keywords that describe your product and services perfectly.</p>
<p>7.  Track your ads.  Always check how much you have spent on placing links on frequently visited sites and on PPC.  There are services that allow you to monitor PPC transactions and how many of these end in sales.  You always need to consider if the ads that you have placed on these websites are getting you to your target consumers and if these ads can lead to revenue.</p>
<p>One final tip on marketing products and services, sell the benefits.  It will help your marketing strategies a lot if you highlight the benefits of choosing your products and services instead of merely discussing the product specifications.  Product specifications may not mean much to customers, unless they know what these stand for (how these specifications affect the quality of the product or service).</p>
<p>Many people say getting to the top of search engine results is difficult since millions of websites exist, which can be using the same keywords.  While this is true, this doesn&#8217;t mean that your website has to stacked under your competitors&#8217; websites when presenting search engine results.  Strategic advertising and linking, together with useful content, can also get you to the top of the search results.</p>

? Pay per click advertisement ?</p>
<p>This particular strategy won?t bring you millions of customers but I have included it here anyway, because I know that a lot of people use it to advertise their products on the Internet and it gives them very positive results. </p>
<p>What is it about? Well, here we go&#8230;</p>
<p>Sophisticated search engines like Google and web directories (E.g. Yahoo) have developed advertisement programs which allow you to advertise in a new and innovative way. If you have ever used Google or Yahoo you may have already noticed some ad messages to the right of the screen. They are called text ads and they are much more effective than banners.		</p>
<p>It works as follows. First you sign up with Google adwords https://adwords.google.com/ or Yahoo Overture http://www.content.overture.com/d/. These programs allow you to advertise on the Internet on a paid basis. Let me explain . . . </p>
<p>Once you join, you will have the opportunity to customize your ads. You will be able to set up everything as you please: the message you will deliver to your potential clients, the keywords you are going to use, the name for your ads, etc.</p>
<p>Then you will choose how much you want to pay for those keywords. For example if you own a real estate related business, and you want surfers that are looking for real estate related information to see your ad, then you will bid on that particular keyword. </p>
<p>The bidding starts at $0.05 per click and goes up. You only pay whenever someone clicks on your ads and you choose how much you want to pay for each click. You also decide the time frame of your advertising campaigns, how many clicks to receive in specific time periods, etc. </p>
<p>You will pay the amount you bid on, whenever someone clicks on your ad. If you bid $0.05 per click and you run and advertisement campaign with $30.00 then you may receive 20 clicks per day for thirty days. In that case you would be choosing to spend $1 per day, but you can also spend the whole amount in one week or one day. </p>
<p>It all depends of your preferences and what is more convenient to you. Also keep in mind that the higher you bid, the more exposure you get. If you bid too low, then your ads wont be very popular. A marketer that chooses to spend $1 per click will have a better exposure than that one who chooses to spend only $0.15 per click on the same keyword. Do you get the point here? This is a competitive thing.</p>
<p>Now, you may be wondering why do I refer you to a paid advertising technique when there are so many ways to advertise for free on the Internet as I have already described in other articles. The reason is basically that not every marketer is equal.</p>
