Posted by | Posted in SEO | Posted on 17-04-2009
All of us know that the search engines are ultimately the ‘Holy Grail’ when it comes to the topic of getting traffic to your web site. There are literally millions upon millions of searches done daily on a variety of topics, using a huge variety of keywords and keyword phrases.
If you can execute an effective plan for getting search engine traffic you can basically write your own paycheck, provided you have monetized your web site correctly. But the main question is: “How do I go about attracting traffic from the search engines?”
There are a few main ways to tackle the subject, mainly SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, and PPC (Pay-Per-Click).
Since the focus of this blog is on generating free traffic to your site, I’ll be skipping the PPC tutorial – wouldn’t make sense, would it?
This leaves us with utilizing SEO in hopes of getting our website to the first page of the Google (the largest search engine by far) search results for our chosen keywords or keyword phrases.
Now, there are a few key things you can do on your web site itself, known as on-page optimization, to improve your search engine rankings – namely utilizing the meta tags along with mentioning your keywords a few times in the content of your page(s).
However, I’ll be focusing this post on 5 simple ways to build keyword-anchored backlinks to your site – arguably the major factor in determining your search engine placement.
Don’t believe me? Do a search on “SEO Company” and see who is in the first position – National Positions.
This company’s web site has very little in terms of on-page SEO going on for the term “SEO Compnay”, yet they have built a large number of backlinks to their site with “SEO Company” as the anchored keyword phrase.
So then, here are 5 simple ways to build quality keyword-anchored backlinks to your web site, thereby vastly improving your search engine rankings.
1) Directory Submission
This is a dead-simple method but takes a bit of boring legwork. Do yourself a favor and download (for free) FastDirectorySubmitter – it will save you boatloads of time and you’ll build 150 quality backlinks in the process.
2) Blog Commenting
Use a tool such as CommentKahuna – another free piece of software – to locate on topic blogs to your market and leave RELEVANT comments, using your keyword phrase in the “Name” field to anchor the backlink.
3) Article Distribution
This is one of my favorites. You generate traffic not only from the directory community but also from the republishing of your articles in other ezines, etc. In the process, you build backlinks by utilizing the hyperlinking capabilities of the author’s ‘Bio Box’ – win/win/win!
Stick to the ‘Big Boys’, such as ezinearticles, buzzle, goarticles, articledashboard and searchwarp. If you’re clever about using your keywords in your article title, you may even get first page rankings for the article as well – bonus!
4) Blogging
There is no question that Google loves fresh blog content. Simply open a free account at blogger (Google owns it) and create a market-relevant blog. Then build your keyword-anchored links within the body of your posts.
5) Social Bookmarking
Sites such as Digg, Delicious and StumbleUpon are great sources of backlinks to your site. You will also get a varying degree of traffic from the respective communities as well. Make sure you use a bookmarking tool such as OnlyWire to simplify the process.
There are can indeed improve your search engine rankings in the process of implementing these techniques.
